Our Getting Started steps will help you find your
way around your virtual WebCT classroom.
Having the right software and getting the configurations set correctly
is a lot easier than you may think. WebCT keeps a site specifically
dedicated to helping
you take care of the issues involved with configuration of your browser and how
to locate plug-ins if they are needed for your class. Please confirm
your browser's compatibility using WebCT's built-in
Browser Check.
How to Enable Java Virtual Machine: You
will need to have the Sun Microsystems Java Virtual Machine ("JVM")
software version 1.4.1 (1.4.2 or higher recommended) software installed
in your browser in order for certain areas of WebCT to function properly.

Feedback and Suggestions
University of Houston-Clear Lake is currently using WebCT CE version 4.1.
You can visit the WebCT
Browser Tune-up page to fully prepare your browser for WebCT.
You've
Got Mail! (UHCL
Campus e-mail). Beginning in Fall 2005, your UHCL campus e-mail will
be an official method of communication between
the university and you. Faculty may choose to send e-mails to your
personal, WebCT, or campus e-mail addresses. However, communications
from UHCL administrative offices will only be sent to UHCL campus
e-mail address. Technical questions regarding UHCL e-mail, call the
UCT Support Center at (281) 283-2828.
Once these technicalities are out of the way, continue on to Step
2: Using the WebCT Tools.
WebCT has tools you need to communicate with your classmates
and instructor, track your progress through a course, and manage your
class work. Instructors pick and chose the tools best suited for their
course not all the tools will be available in each course.

- Scroll toward the button of the page the videos are listed under Tutorials
Once you're comfortable with the tools and interface, continue on to
Step 3: Taking a Test Drive.
Take a look at a WebCT
sample course. When you are done, you must close your browser window
to log out of the course.
Once you've worked through Steps 1 through 3, you should be ready to
log into your WebCT course, provided that you've been added to a course.
Continue on to Step 4 Login to your course.
Access to WebCT requires a WebCT ID (UserID) and Password (Student ID).
Student accounts are created automatically for all enrolled students.
If you do not know your WebCT UserID, please visit the UHCL
UserID Lookup page.
